Hi all,
Just started doing research on telepresence and found this site. I will be working with a client on improving their conferences worldwide to include rich-media for attendees at the conference and those that can physically make it to the conferences. Telepresence seems to offer a great way to have a rich experence without leaving home. I'm here to learn more about this technology to see if/how it could be used for my clients.
Cheers,

Hi Phil, thanks for dropping by - glad to have you!
Post up your weblinks and take a look around at the streaming Telepresence news, videos and articles - they're sure to help you get up to date and the knowledge you gain can help with your clients.
Please help us out by posting what you find in your quest too - we're only a month old and could use all the help we can get!
Got to run for now, we'll be talking more soon!

Thanks Lumpy,
Well as I mentioned I just started exploring this specific topic. I was impressed by the Cisco presentation but wondered how expensive it was to do that and how much trouble-shooting they had to do to get it to work.
What I'm looking for is something like this:
Scenario/question 1
Say a company hosts a 3 day conference. If you don't/can't travel to the event, how can you still attend and reap the same type of benefit as attending? Obviously you miss out on much of the networking, but one of the reasons folks go to conferences aside from hearing/seeing what is being presented is to network with other folks (see and be seen). Can telepresence offer a potential solution to that?
Scenario/question 2
At the conference, can there be a multipoint presence for two-way interaction at the conference? How many points can be supported?
This looked interesting. How many multipoint locations can you have? Just add more MCUs?
http://www.lifesize.com/
High Definition Multipoint ControlLifeSize® Multipoint™ is a high definition Multipoint Control Unit (MCU) designed to support multi-site conferencing for up to 24 simultaneous locations with 720p video quality and high fidelity audio. The product is architected to preserve the true high definition quality for all sites when used with LifeSize video communications endpoints and interoperability with standards-compliant systems.LifeSize Multipoint is ideal for video communications where more than 4 participants must communicate transparently and in real time with the highest quality, simplicity and manageability
An implementation thought: could you have access points (access point = person or group) in a room and you could go and interact with each of them. A way to meet with folks that aren't at the conference?
I think the caffeine is kicking in because my fingers can't keep up with my thoughts!

Sorry it took so long to reply MediaBay....
Yes, you can add points (or rooms) from across the world now.
Polycom is your best bet for worldwide usage for now although others are making a run at them.
ATT is working with Cisco now to offer Telepresence in another 23 countries by the end of this year.
